Jake Peavy retired the first 16 batters of the game and Paul Konerko blasted his major-league leading 13th home run to lead the Chicago White Sox to a 7-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday.

Peavy (2-2) had his bid for a perfect game halted by John Buck’s eighth home run of the season with one out in the sixth inning. Peavy finished with eight strikeouts in eight innings. He allowed two runs on three hits and didn’t walk a batter.

Konerko, who missed the last two games with a sore neck, gave the White Sox the early lead with a two-run homer in the first inning off Brett Cecil (2-2).

Leading 3-1, Chicago broke the game open with four runs in the seventh. Andruw Jones had an RBI triple. Alex Rios followed with a run-scoring double and the White Sox added two more runs in the inning on bases-loaded walks issued by Toronto reliever Casey Janssen.

The Blue Jays, who saw their six-game winning streak come to an end, also got a home run from Alex Gonzalez, his team-leading 10th of the year.
